An important part of the Spiders is what happens off the field as much as what happens on and our recreation and off-season activities are designed to further develop friendships, learn new skills and provide opportunities the participants may not otherwise have.
To this end, we encourage all Senior and Junior Development Squad members, along with parents, carers, sponsors and supporters to get involved.
Whether it be cheering at a game or attending a dinner, special function or recreation activity, there are many opportunities throughout the entire year.
Highlights have included:
- Social evenings with guest speakers
- Playing exhibition matches at the MCG and Etihad stadium in front of 60,000 people
- Having a movie night
- Going to AFL footy games or 20/20 cricket as a group
- Learning about the effects of alcohol, the NDIS, and other social issues
- Participating in a lawn bowls community competition
- Being challenged at the Clifford Park commando-style obstacle course
- Participating in a boxercise program during the off-season at MVC Boxing
- Playing indoor cricket
- Having a go at tenpin bowling
- Bike ride
- Mini golf
- Being challenged on the waterslides at Aquanation
- and lots more
The off-season and recreation activities are open to all Senior and Junior Development Squad members. Many of the activities are also open for parents, carers, family members and friends to participate. Some activities are free of charge, while others incur a cost, usually at a subsidised amount.
